Venezia head coach Davide Nicola reflected on his team’s performance following the match against Como, highlighting the demanding schedule faced by his players and the importance of maintaining a balance between defensive solidity and attacking ambition.
“We have played four matches in 16 days, including a win over Napoli,” Nicola said. “We performed very well in Genoa, especially in the second half, and we played a good game against Inter. Today, we produced the kind of performance we needed.”
The Venezia coach explained that his team’s objective is not simply to defend effectively, but also to continue playing with courage and purpose when in possession.
“We want to achieve two things: to be effective defensively without giving up our attacking intent.”
Nicola described the encounter with Como as a tactically tight contest. He also commented on the penalty incident, while stressing that the team must remain focused on its long-term development rather than allowing individual decisions to become a distraction.
“It was a tactically tight game. It is frustrating because you have to keep the players calm. For me, it was a penalty, but we must never lose sight of the journey we are on.”
Despite the result, Nicola expressed confidence in the quality and potential of his squad. He wants Venezia to approach every match with intensity and believes the team has the necessary qualities to achieve its objective.
“I always want maximum energy. I am convinced that this team has what it takes to achieve our objective.”
His post-match comments therefore focused on continuity, balance and composure. Venezia’s demanding run of fixtures has tested the squad, but Nicola remains convinced that maintaining defensive effectiveness without abandoning the team’s attacking identity will be crucial in the weeks ahead.
