Como claimed a valuable 1-0 victory over Venezia at the Stadio Sinigaglia, with Lucas Da Cunha’s first-half penalty proving enough to separate the two sides after a disciplined and mature performance from Cesc Fàbregas’ men.
The opening half was tactically intriguing and closely contested. Como controlled possession for long spells and threatened mainly down the right through Couto and Da Cunha, while Venezia remained compact and looked to exploit transitions. Douvikas tested Stanković early on, Baturina twice went close, and Kaiki forced another important save from the Venezia goalkeeper. The visitors thought they had earned a penalty midway through the half, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review for the absence of a handball offence. Como continued to push forward and were rewarded shortly before the break when Douvikas won a penalty and Da Cunha calmly converted from the spot to make it 1-0.
Both teams showed signs of fatigue after their midweek commitments, with Como coming off their comeback in Turin and Venezia following a demanding home match against Inter. The second half was therefore less intense but remained firmly under Como’s control. The hosts managed possession well, limited Venezia’s opportunities and looked comfortable for long periods. Their best chance to extend the lead came when Couto fired narrowly wide.
As the match entered its final stages, the tempo dropped significantly and the game became increasingly fragmented. Venezia struggled to create clear openings but nearly rescued a point in stoppage time. In the 93rd minute, Butez produced an excellent save to deny the visitors and preserve Como’s advantage.
It was not the most spectacular second half, but it was a professional and controlled display from Como, who managed the game intelligently after the break and held firm when required to secure all three points at the Sinigaglia.
